There’s an ominous image hidden in the new ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ poster

Star Wars fans have been expecting The Last Jedi to be a dark chapter in the modern Star Wars saga ever since Lucasfilm debuted the movie’s ominously red logo earlier this year. But if you found the latest poster for the movie especially unsettling, there may be a subtle reason why.

As artist Adam Koford pointed out on Twitter, images of The Last Jedi‘s cast are assembled on the poster to create a familiar silhouette. It might take some squinting to see it the first time, but once you do, you won’t be able to see it any other way.

If you’re still having trouble seeing it, Koford helpfully provided an illustration.

It’s no mistake that the silhouette of Darth Vader’s helmet is lurking on the poster. Vader is dead at this point in the Star Wars timeline, but his memory still looms large over the plot. His children Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker are still battling the forces of the dark side, while Vader’s grandson, Kylo Ren, works to live up to his granddad’s murderous reputation. We have a feeling the movie will contain some emotional gut punches when it debuts Dec. 15. In fact, it’s already handing them out.
