This whole motherhood thing has become quite the project for Mindy Kaling.
The A Wrinkle in Time actress made a complete 180 since giving birth to daughter Katherine Swati on December 15 — the most profound change being that she now actually likes kids!
Stopping by Thursday night’s The Late Show, the actress admitted that she had no idea what to expect in the first few weeks of motherhood because she “was not a kid person at all” until she had her own.
She explained to Stephen Colbert:
“It’s really profound and strange. I was not a kid person at all. I was the person, if you had a baby at a party, I would go up to them and shake their hand and be like, ‘Hello.’ So I didn’t know [or] understand how to be around babies.”
The 38-year-old joked of her baby girl:
“She’s often like, ‘Who dat?’ to me because I’ve been a little busy promoting this movie… It’s funny because I didn’t know when you have a baby that you’re gonna be up every three hours. So I’m up in the middle of the night with her and then afterwards it’s hard to go back to sleep.”
It’s a good thing The Office alum has a lot of friends she can rely on. Friends like Colbert, who send her really nice, antiquated infant gowns as a baby shower present.
While Mindy reassured the late night how much she loved his 19th century-era present, she confessed it “straight up sucks” compared to Oprah’s extravagant gift — which had to be sent in a truck and brought in by two delivery men!
